Here is a list of Thoughts, Ideas and Experiences we have on the use of Information Technology (IT) 95% of all computer problems can be solved by a cold restart of the system. 90% of the problems can be solved with a warm restart. It is better to buy a new computer with a new Operating System than to upgrade an old computer with a new Operating System. Don't wait for prices to come down or the next generation of computers. Get computers when you need them.
Products We Use and Recommend: Macintosh OS X - This latest version of the OS from Apple is very stable and easy to use. Check it out. Lots of preloaded user friendly programs to use. Did Macs have any Y2K (remember that biggest non-event of the last century??) problems? NO!! When was that last time you heard about a Mac virus? AND all MS Office programs are completely interchangeable with Windows!! Dell Computers - Great support and service at a reasonable price. What else would you want? Microsoft XP Professional - If I must work with Windows I want to use XP. It is much more stable and reliable than any previous versions. Plug and Play as well as networking is greatly improved. Microsoft Office and Front Page - MS Office seems to be the business standard that everybody is using. I hate to go along with the "pack" but there are already enough problems and confusion with computers as it is, why add any more with different software packages? MS Front Page (web development software) works well with MS Office and is very intuitive to those who use MS Office. Yahoo Website Services - Well known, reliable, reasonably priced and they pay for your domain name. AOL - Yes it is relatively expensive and everybody has something negative (did I hear you say A O HELL?) to say about it (not to mention its stock). BUT it is very intuitive, consistent, user friendly and reliable which is why I recommend it. Not to mention it is not nearly as prone to viruses as is using Outlook. Dave - Software that makes it much easier to network Mac's with PC's. Virtual PC - Did you know you can run Windows programs on a Mac? And run different operating systems on the same PC without rebooting? I have been using Windows XP Pro on my iBook. Although it runs fairly slow it does work exactly as described. I am sure it would run better if I had a faster Mac with more memory. |
